A gas target for radionuclide production with 500 MeV protons
The TRIUMF 500 MeV cyclotron produces proton beams of up to 140 μA. It has been used in conjunction with a dual chamber gas target for the production of useful quantities of 11CO2 and [18F]F2 which are routinely incorporated into radiotracers for positron emission tomography.
