A pug with viral pigmented plaques suspected to be associated with canine papillomavirus type12 during long-term treatment with systemic corticosteroid

: A 6-year-old, intact, male pug was presented with black plaques without pruritus on the inner thigh during long-term administration of systemic prednisolone. The histological findings were compatible with viral pigmented plaque in dogs. PCR and DNA sequencing were performed using DNA extracted from a skin lesion, and a result of 99.22% coincidence with a part of the L1 gene sequence of canine papilloma virus type 12 was obtained. To the best of the author’s knowledge, the present case is the first report of viral pigment plaque associated with canine papilloma virus type12 infection in a pug.
