A novel thin screen FSS with fractal elements is shown to have significantly improved resonant frequency stability characteristics as the incident angle is steered from normal to 60° and for both TE and TM polarizations. This superior feature of resonant frequency stability also applies for circular polarization cases, since the fractal element geometry is symmetrical in both x and y directions. Although only one example case of 3:1 reflection to pass band ratio is demonstrated, the fractal FSS is capable for much smaller ratio. It has many applications in the low cost, low mass, and low volume antennas for the advanced and multi-function communication and radar systems.
