Various aldehydes were reacted with diethylphosphite in the presence of 1 % of heteropolyacids (HPAs) as a catalyst to generate the α-hydroxyphosphonates. All the synthesized compounds were sys tematically characterized by IR, H NMR, C NMR, and P NMR.
