Effect of type D personality on self-management and quality of life in patients with stroke
Objective
To investigate the status of self-management ability and quality of life in patients with type D personality stroke, and to study the correlation between type D personality and self-management ability and quality of life of stroke patients.
Methods
A total of 629 stroke patients were investigated by using the self-management behavior scale, the quality of life measurement scale and the D-type personality scale.
Results
The self-management scale score of stroke patients was 138.38±13.21 and the quality of life scale score was 56.99±2.22. The self-management and quality of life of patients with type D personality stroke were 136.38±12.26, 56.09±2.51, lower than those of non-D type personality stroke patients (139.34±14.21, 57.54±1.31) (t values were 3.018, 90.616, P < 0.05). Pearson correlation analysis showed that patients' self-management dimensions and total scores were correlated with the negative emotion and social inhibition dimensions of D-type personality , showing a significant negative correlation (r values were -0.425- -0.117, P<0.05). The dimensions of life quality and the total score of the scale were also correlated with the negative emotion and social inhibition dimensions of D-type personality, and all had negative correlations (r values were -0.447- -0.142, P<0.05).
Conclusion
The self-management and quality of life of patients with type D personality stroke are at a general level, and type D personality can weaken patients′ self-management ability and quality of life.
