The relative approach between the colliding missile and the strip was obtained in a stepwise fashion in the time domain by considering the compatibility of forces and displacements at the interface. The stresses in the region of contact were calculated using Hertz contact theory modified to represent material anisotropy. The plate significantly deflects near the contact patch during the period of contact.
