Decorations of the Bogtag Headdress

We will discuss decorations on a Mongolian wife hat. Two decorations were found in the second burial at Buural Mountain in Khongor sum, Darkhan Uul province in 1980. They are stored in the Funds of Institute of Archaeology, Mongolian Academy of Sciences. In total, there are two fragments.The first decoration is well-preserved and round in shape. The chemical analyses of the first artefact show that it is made of silver and gold. On it, there are two other metal decorations in the shape of a sun and a moon, which demonstrates the link to the Xiongnu and Mongol Empire totem, ritual, and ancestry.The second decoration was found in a broken state, with half of the piece being lost. We were able to reconstruct the piece to get a complete decoration pattern, which was determined to be a “Chandmani” pattern. The artefact comprises a small piece of organic textile and stone. We analyzed the textile under a microscope and found that the textile was made using a weaving method called a “yorog”. Богтаг малтайн нэгэн цог чимгийн тухай Товчлол.
