One of the gases that include hydrofluorocarbons is Dichlrotrifluoroethane gas (CF<inf>3</inf>CHO<inf>2</inf>). The presence of Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF<inf>a</inf>) as gas insulated switchgear (GIS) gas insulation is critical to reliability in maintaining the power system while transmitting power from the power plant through a substation. Utilization of SF<inf>6</inf> gas as a gas insulation medium in high equipment contradicts with the Kyoto Protocol. The Kyoto Protocol implies SF<inf>6</inf> restrictions and reductions for various applications. The effects of SF<inf>6</inf> gas use lead to acid rain, global warming, and ozone depletion. Alternative gas investigation for SF6 gas is CF3CHCl2 gas combined with nitrogen gas. The purpose of mixing the gas to reduce the concentration of CF<inf>3</inf>CHCl<inf>2</inf> gas in the air. This study was a mixture of CF<inf>3</inf>CHCl<inf>2</inf> + N<inf>2</inf> with 60%, 50% and 40% ratios measured as having reliable against breakdown voltage with a value of 95.6–143.8 kV.
