Recessed and non-recessed bearings are compared, showing that slot entry bearings offer greatest load capacity up to 0.5 eccentricity ratio although flow-rates are increased to achieve minimum power dissipation. Tolerancing procedures for both recessed and non-recessed configurations are presented which enable bearings to be designed for economic manufacture combined with low total power dissipation, high load capacity and high stiffness.
