Portinari of Brazil em Detroit

Candido Portinari (1903-1962) alcançou sucesso estrondoso nos Estados Unidos entre 1939 e 1945 onde, durante 1941, três exposições individuais de seus trabalhos circularam simultaneamente. O evento que possibilitou as duas itinerâncias mais importantes foi a mostra solo do pintor no Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA), Portinari of Brazil, aberta em agosto de 1940. Examinamos aqui a realização e recepção desta exposição, levando em conta contextos políticos, sociais e culturais.

期刊介绍： The Journal of the Center for the History of Society and Culture is an annual scientific journal written in Portuguese. Its articles are subjected to a preliminary assessment carried out by an external arbitration committee. This journal was founded in 2001 with the main goal of publicizing the historical studies developed within the scope of the Center for the History of Society and Culture, an R&D unit registered with the Foundation for Science and Technology. The journal’s contents include unpublished historical texts (from the Middle Ages to the Contemporary Age), a news section on scientific activities and critical reviews of books in the field of History. The journal accepts articles from full researchers and collaborators of the Center for the History of Society and Culture, as well as from any other historians from outside this institution. Special encouragement is made to the participation of all those who, in one way or another, cooperate or develop networking activities with this Research Center.
