IDP as an alternative method to reduce the PAPR of DVB-T2 and ATSC 3.0 broadcast systems
The second generation of digital video broadcasting for terrestrial transmission (DVB-T2) and Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) 3.0 are based on Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) modulation. As known, OFDM has a very high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) which affects the system performance in presence of nonlinear power amplification. Many algorithms have been proposed to reduce the PAPR effect on the transmitted signal. The DVB-T2 and ATSC 3.0 standards adopted the technique of tone reservation (TR) which is based on an iterative process where a predefined kernel is applied to reduce a peak power at each iteration. In this paper, the Iterative Dichotomy PAPR reduction method (IDP) is used to reduce the PAPR of both DVB-T2 and ATSC 3.0 standards. The simulation results show that IDP-based PAPR reduction exhibits a gain of 2 dB, in terms of PAPR reduction, compared to TR.
