The Norman Coinage of Roger I the Great Count

Статья знакомит читателя с одним из самых интересных памятников нумизматики средневековой Европы - монетой, отчеканенной от имени графа Рожера Боссо (1031–1101), первого норманнского правителя Сицилии. Уникальная иконография трифолларо Рожера I привлекала не одно поколение нумизматов-исследователей, но до сих пор многие тайны чеканки этой монеты остаются неразгаданными. Автор пытается найти истоки оригинальной композиции оформления трифолларо, проследить норманнское влияние на выбор сюжета монеты, исследует метрологию рассматриваемой эмиссии и связь с нумизматикой и сфрагистикой франков в Леванте. Автор приходит к выводу о прочтении программы оформления аверса и реверса трифолларо Рожера, как пропаганды власти норманнского правящего класса в Сицилии и прославления графа Рожера — покровителя и защитника Церкви и христианства. The article introduces the reader to one of the most fascinating numismatic monuments of Medieval Europe — the coin, minted by the Count Roger Bosso (1031–1101), the first Norman ruler of Sicily. The unique iconography of Roger’s trifollaro continues to intrigue generations of numismatists (both collectors and researchers). Many of the coin’s secrets remain resolved. In the article, the author tries to find the roots of the original composition that decorates the trifollaro, to trace the Norman influence on the selection of the imagery, studies the metrology of the given emission, and the coin’s connection to the numismatics and sigillography of the Franks in the Levant. The author comes to the conclusion that the goal of the program imagery on the obverse and reverse of Roger’s trifollaro is the propaganda of the Norman ruling class in Sicily and the glorification of Count Roger as the patron and defender of the Church and Christianity.
