The database of Russian regiments (1700–1914). Results of a compilation attempt. (List of regiments, participation in Conflicts and Military Campaigns in Europe, Establishment, year-by-year deployment)

Статья рассказывает об основных теоретических, методологических и практических аспектах подготовки базы данных «Большая Игра» для полков Российской императорской армии в 1700-1914 гг. В ней дается краткая характеристика источников и литературы, приводятся результаты работы. На основании полученных данных описываются изменения в численном составе пехоты и кавалерии и количестве полков, приводится методология расчета максимальной численности пехоты и кавалерии в конфликтах и кампаниях в период 1700-1914 г. Во-второй части статьи раскрывается практическая сторона применения таблиц. На основании данных Северной Войны 1700-1721 гг., Семилетней войны 1756-1763 гг. и Итальянского и Швейцарского походов Суворова о численности войск выдвигается гипотеза о необходимых поправках, которые нужно иметь в виду, изучая военную историю XVIII века. The article presents theoretical and methodological framework as well as some practical aspects for the “The Great Game” database. The database concerns the regiment of the Russian Imperial Army in 1700-1914 and provides a list of the regiments, a brief description of sources and literature, changes in military establishment of infantry and cavalry regiments and hypothesises a methodology for calculating a maximum strength of armies during the conflicts of 1700-1914 period. The second part of the article is dedicated to the practical aspects of the database. Using the data form the Great Northern War, the Seven Years War and Suvorov’s Italian and Swiss campaign the aforementioned methodology is put to test. The results reveals the necessary amendments and caveat what should be kept in mind while researching the military history of the XVIII centrury.
