The contact problem with the bulk application of intermolecular interaction forces: distinctive features of the subsurface stresses
The formulation of the contact problem is considered for the bulk application of intermolecular interaction forces between the contacting bodies as applied to the contact between an absolutely rigid body (an indentor) and an elastic half space. The subsurface stresses and, in particular, the shear stress intensity associated with the fracture of the material are analysed.
