LA NECROPOLI IPOGEICA A DOMUS DE JANAS DI BIRGUSA IN LOCALITÀ CORRAILE - THIESI (SS)

The Neolithic necropolis of Birgusa has the largest number of “Domus de Janas” grave chambers among those found in the municipal area of Thiesi, in the province of Sassari. The necropolis is located at the southern edge of the Corraile plateau (480 m asl), the burial area is part of the dense settlement that characterized the north central area of Sardinia between the fifth and fourth mill. BC (Culture of San Michele Ozieri). The eight graves of the necropolis, plus a small natural cave, present characteristics similar to those of the main necropolis of the territory for both the architectural lines. Some tombs are characterized by their monumental and symbolic elements closely linked to the cult.
