While <em>S. singaporensis</em> and <em>S. villivillosi</em> developed only in murids closely related to the genus <em>Rattus</em>, a third <em>Sarcocystis</em> species (natural definitive host: <em>Bitis nasicornis</em> — syn. <em>Isospora dirumpens?</em>) showed a broad intermediate host range.
