Qualidade de sono, nível de sonolência e suas relações com indicadores de obesidade em pilotos militares brasileiros
This study aimed to evaluate sleep quality and sleepiness level and their relationship with obesity indicators in Brazilian military pilots. Forty pilots answered validated questionnaires to assess sleep quality and daytime sleepiness and anamnesis. Body mass, height, waist and hip circumferences, and body composition were measured, and waist-to-height ratio (WHTR), waist/hip ratio (WHR), and body mass index (BMI) were calculated. Visceral adipose tissue was measured by magnetic resonance imaging. Data analysis was performed using the Stata 14.0 program considering p < 0.05. We observed 47.5% of the pilots with poor sleep quality 25% sleeping less than 6 hours a day and low magnitude positive correlations of poor sleep quality with WHTR (r = 0.3364; p = 0.0338) and body fat percentage (r = 0.3451; p = 0.0292). It was concluded that approximately half of the sample has poor sleep quality, but almost all of them had a normal daytime sleepiness level.
