In this study, the wide expansion ranges of Alveolina permit us to achieve a high-resolution biostratigraphy and apply the shallow benthic zones of the peri-Mediterranean region (Western Tethys) to the Ilerdian-Cuisian successions in Iran (Central Tethys).
