Vergiftungen mit Haushaltsreinigern bei Katzen
Household cleaner intoxication is the second most common intoxication in cats. The aim of this retrospective analysis was to evaluate the symptoms, treatment, and course of the disease in cats suffering from this type of intoxication. Patient records over a 4-year period were examined for cats suffering from household cleaner intoxication: the records from a total of 10 cats who had had contact to disinfectants, laundry detergents or other detergents were evaluated. Symptoms like salivation, swollen tongue and hyperthermia were overt within a few hours. Lesions were present on the tongue and in the oral cavity. Leukocytosis and left shift were also common. The standard therapeutic interventions were analgesia, fluid therapy and antibiotic treatment. In conclusion, household cleaner intoxication leads to caustic lesions in the oral cavity;however, the outcome with adequate treatment is good.
