Generación, reciclaje y disposición final de los principales residuos en México, 2000-2014

This paper analyzes the behavior of waste in Mexico for the period 2000-2014 considering its three aspects: generation, treatment or recycling and final disposal. The generation of waste per person in Mexico is one of the highest in Latin America, so it is a priority to take measures to benefit of the environment and the health of the inhabitants. Statistical information from official sources of the Instituto Nacional de Estadistica y Geografia and the Secretaria de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales was used for various types of waste, the recycling trend is analyzed using a linear regression model. The results show that the generation has been increasing for most of the waste, although its treatment (recycling) remains relatively low, which causes a bad final disposition; so it is necessary to increase the recycling and carry out programs to quantify adequately the waste as well as entering environmental education.
