Kinetic, Mechanistic and Spectral Investigations of Oxidation of Gabapentin (neurontin) by Diperiodatoargentate(III) in an Aqueous Alkaline Medium
The study of the highest accessible oxidation state of transition metals has intrigued many researchers. Transition metals in a higher oxidation state generally can be stabilised by chelation with suitable polydentate ligands. Metal chelates such as diperiodatoargentate(III) [1], ditelluratoargenatate(III) [2], diperiodatonickelate(IV) [3] and diperiodatocuprate(III) [4] are good oxidants in a medium of appropriate pH. In the recent past, interest in the chemistry of silver (III) species has increased significantly because of it being a two electron oxidant and electronically analogous to the copper(III) system [5]. The catalytic effect of Ag+ in redox reactions of S2O8 has been interpreted in several reports by the formation of a silver(III) Inorganic Reaction Mechanisims, Vol. 6, pp. 131-140 © 2006 Old City Publishing, Inc.
