An algorithm for incorporation of frictional sliding conditions within a steady state rolling framework
A formulation for hyperelastic steady state rolling calculations is presented, focusing on the inclusion of frictional sliding conditions between a rolling tyre and a flat roadway. Algorithmically, it is seen that traditional return mapping algorithmic strategies for treatment of the friction are often ineffective for this problem even when well-posed frictional solutions exist; accordingly, an algorithmic approach utilizing a global stick predictor is proposed to recover solutions to the sliding contact problem. Numerical examples for adherent and sliding contact cases are presented, to demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach advocated. Copyright © 2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
