ABSTRACT:
This study, after analyzing the diverse hypotheses about the identity of the novelist Juan de Flores, opts for the one proposed by Vicente Beltrán de Heredia. He is a Sevillian clergyman, resident in Italy for thirteen years, protected from the prior of the church of the Santo Sepulcro of Toro. After the location of diverse documents, his relationship with his father, the merchant Fernando de Flores, is established, as well as his link with the city of Toro, especially with the powerful family of the Fonseca, and with the city of Ourense, where he wrote some of his works. From his Chronicle [incomplete] of the Catholic Monarchs, some of the previously exposed theories are based. Finally, his relationship with the Castilian Court is established, as well as his probable date of birth and his relationship with Seville.
