However, people do not fully realize the difference between them within the framework of self-development, which affects its effectiveness. \nThe purpose of this work is to study the role of motivation and discipline in personal self-development, as well as a comparative assessment of their contribution to the formation of the meaningfulness of self-development of a person’s personality. \nResearch methods: analysis of scientific literature from the field of psychology, pedagogy and sociology, observation, comparative analysis. \nResults. The study showed that many consider the contribution of motivation to the process of personal self-development more significant than discipline.
