Through a comparative and hermeneutic inspired approach different ideals of school leadership are identified. The analyses point to that the ideal of school leadership has changed from an ideal where the school leader is an experienced “craftsman” to an ideal where the school leader is a service leader and at present to an ideal, where the school leader are focusing on research and learning.
