The New Orphic Fragments from Mount Sinai: A Rereading
Abstract The article offers a rereading of recently published fragments of an Orphic poem discovered in a palimpsest from the library of St Catherine’s Monastery in Sinai (Sin. ar. NF 66). In particular, it establishes that fragments 1-2 narrate a scene from Aphrodite’s catabasis to the underworld in search for Dionysus, as well as clarifying details of the account of the Titans’ attempt to lure Dionysus out in fragments 3-4.

The Archiv für Papyrusforschung (APF) (Archive for Papyrus Research) – founded in 1901 by Ulrich Wilcken – is the oldest specialised papyrus studies journal in the world. Nowadays, the APF differs from other journals specializing in papyrus studies, on account of its papers (literary papyri, Christian texts, papers on documents, judicial articles, Coptic texts and documents, demotica, interpretations and resources).
