This study aimed to assess whether the triethylenetetramine (TETA), as a copper chelator, affects the plasma level of inflammatory markers such as visfatin (Vis), cholinesterase (CholE), total sialic acid (TSA) and hepcidin (Hep) in streptozotocin- induced diabetes mellitus rat. Materials and methods: Thirty male Wistar rats were assigned for this study. After induction of diabetes mellitus, TETA with different doses (10, 20 and 40 mg/kg/day) was orally administrated for 6 months. Thereupon, the above inflammatory factors were measured in all treatment groups. Results: Plasma concentrations of Vis, CholE, TSA, Hep and glucose decreased significantly (P<0.01) in the highest dose group (40 mg/kg/day) compared with control group. Interestingly, by enhancement of TETA dose, these levels were lowered.
