L’università come catalizzatore di relazioni per la valorizzazione del capitale territoriale / The university as a catalyst of relationships for enhancing territorial capital
The consequences of Covid-19 on the economy and society have required an extraordinary commitment from the universities which, as is well known, now have multidimensional missions: the first (teaching) and the second (research) have gradually been joined by a third mission that has conferred a propulsive role for development and innovation and imposed “civic engagement” behaviors. Despite the growing attention of the academic, institutional and civil world towards the renewed commitment of universities, and despite the numerous theoretical frameworks developed, the literature appears to be still fragmented and most universities are still far from the emerging theoretical models. The real challenge posed by Covid-19 to the university was to give concrete proof of “civic engagement” to at least partially counter the consequences of the pandemic. In Italy, as well as in much of the rest of the world, the university seems to have been able to play this new role. The question that arises is whether the experience of recent months can be useful teaching to trigger a strong driving force in universities and restore the centrality of knowledge.
