Ciudades mineras en la Puna Colonial

espanolLa actividad minera en el periodo colonial ha suscitado la produccion de numerosas obras historicas, aunque en general han tratado sobre los centros mineros mas sobresalientes y que posibilitaron la explotacion masiva por parte de los colonizadores espanoles desde el siglo XVI y portugueses en el siglo siguiente. Solo en las ultimas decadas se ha vuelto la mirada sobre otras explotaciones que, si bien, en comparacion con Potosi, Zacatecas u Ouro Preto, aparecen como marginales, han tenido significativa importancia por dos siglos, a lo menos, en lugares que hoy nos aparecen como impensables. En el caso de la Puna de Jujuy, y en particular los departamentos de Santa Catalina y Rinconada, han sido testigos durante centurias de las actividades extractivas y metalurgicas, como lo prueban las ruinas de las “ciudades mineras” que se alzaron junto a los placeres auriferos, por lo menos desde el siglo XVII, habiendose construido verdaderas estructuras urbanas que albergaron volumenes de poblacion muy superiores, en terminos absolutos, a los actuales. En el presente trabajo, abordare algunos aspectos referidos a las modalidades de la explotacion minera en la Puna de Jujuy en tiempos de la colonia y los trazados de circulacion de bienes y personas que se hicieron necesarios para la actividad. EnglishThe mining activity in the colonial period has led to the production of numerous historical works, although in general they have dealt with the most outstanding mining centers and made possible the massive exploitation by the Spanish colonizers from the sixteenth century and Portuguese in the following century. Only in recent decades has it turned its gaze on other exploitations that, although, compared to Potosi, Zacatecas or Ouro Preto, appear as marginal, have had significant importance for two centuries, at least, in places that today appear as unthinkable. In the case of the Puna of Jujuy, and in particular the departments of Santa Catalina and Rinconada, they have witnessed extractive and metallurgical activities for centuries, as proven by the ruins of the "mining cities" that were erected next to the pleasures gold, at least since the seventeenth century, having been built true urban structures that hosted volumes of population much higher, in absolute terms, than today. In the present work, I will approach some aspects related to the modalities of the mining exploitation in the Puna of Jujuy at the time of the colony and the traces of circulation of goods and people that became necessary for the activity.
