Incontinencia urinaria y calidad de vida en el adulto mayor en una Unidad de Medicina Familiar
: Introduction: Urinary incontinence (UI) is a situation that has been underdiagnosed, and, related to urogenital problems, is considered an event of high incidence and prevalence. Howev-er, only a small number of people who suffer from it seek medical attention and others simply make changes in their daily lives. Objective: To deter-mine the association between UI and quality of life in the elderly. Material and methods: Cross-sec-tional analytical study, which included 223 adults over 60 years of age entitled to the Family Medicine Unit (FMU) 51. The modular questionnaire created by the International Consultation Group on Incontinence (ICIQ-IU Short Form) was used to assess UI and the Short Form-36 scale for mea-sure the quality of life. The chi-square test was used for qualitative variables. Results: The prevalence of UI in the older adult of the FMU 51 was 57.4%, the most frequent type of UI in both sexes was urge UI. Older adults with UI reported lower quality of life index related to health status compared to older continents. Conclusion: The evaluation of the quality of life in its different dimensions through structured instruments demonstrates a lower quality of life in the elderly with UI.
