Raba narečja v novogrški prozi: primer Joannisa Kondilakisa

The paper discusses the language of Joannis Kondylakis, a Modern Greek author who incorporated in his literary work the characteristics of his home (Cretan) dialect, and the context in which his oeuvre was crafted. To shed light on this theme from various perspectives, the first part outlines the basic ideas and linguistic trends of Kondylakis’ period and provides information on his life and work. This is followed by a concise survey of Modern Greek dialects. The conclusion presents the most important findings yielded by the analysis of the use of the Cretan dialect in Joannis Kondylakis’ works.
