The bryophytes of the Wallich herbarium and catalogue.

Nathaniel Wallich (1786–1854) was among the most significant pioneers of the botanical exploration of Nepal, and his bryophyte collections are an important source for the interpretation of names or epithets that are still in use. The present paper lists 139 bryophyte names from Wallich’s herbarium and catalogue at K-W (Kew-Wallich), along with additional information concerning places of their valid publication, type status of the specimens and some explaining notes, and lectotypifies 31 names. Wallich’s collections represent the first records for 55 mosses and 12 liverworts from Nepal; some others are first records from countries as Singapore, Myanmar and St. Helena.
