The dynamics of system-justifying and system-critical social attitudes was the topic of a conference organised at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences on the occasion of the 80 th birthday of Professor György Hunyady. Reflecting on György Hunyady’s volume published last year, which summarises theoretical approaches and empirical research findings on system attitudes, the speakers examined the concepts of justice, system justification and system critique in the social context of the present as well as in the historical periods of the recent and distant past. The conference pointed to the need for such interdisciplinary social science discussions in considering when it is useful and when it is not to apply concepts conceived in other social realities to the study of system attitudes.
