Five species ( Agyneta decora , A. ripariensis , Masikia caliginosa , Metopobactrus prominulus , and Walckenaeria clavicornis ) have been recorded for the fauna of Yamal for the first time. The fauna of the Southern, Central, and Northern Yamal differ in species richness (comprised of a total of 165, 61, and 36 species, respectively). I compared the effectiveness of estimations of the species richness for spiders at high latitudes using pitfall traps and a sifter and found no significant differences between these methods. The composition of the dominant species differed between the sample sets collected using pitfall traps and a sifter, although all of these species were present in both sample sets.
