Report on a double-blind trial comparing small and large doses of gold in the treatment of rheumatoid disease.
A double-blind trial was carried out for one year on 60 patients suffering from rheumatoid disease. A dosage of 10 mg of sodium aurothiomalate weekly was compared to 50 my weekly. The method and regime of the trial are described. Analysis of the results showed no statistical difference in response between the two groups. There was no appreciable difference in the toxic effects between the two groups and those reported were not serious.
