Nurse-midwifery practice in high-volume tertiary care settings.

Although high‐volume tertiary care settings serve many women at risk of developing pregnancy complications, nurse‐midwives provide many and varied services to women cared for in these settings. The nurse‐midwives who work in these settings are faced with differences in philosophy of management between physicians and nurse‐midwives as well as inadequate space for patients and personnel, yet many feel that a role for nurse‐midwives in the future is most appropriate in these settings.
