Optimizing outcomes in major depressive disorder.

Abstract: Major depressive disorder (MDD), a leading cause of disability and mortality globally, carries the highest burden among mental health disorders in industrialized nations. This review article emphasizes accurate diagnosis and effective pharmacologic treatment and management of MDD in adults. A timely, individualized approach to care that addresses the complexity of MDD and improves patient recovery trajectories is recommended.
