Both coordination spheres are slightly distorted from the ideal shapes. The {C≡N→Mn} unit is distinctly non-linear and all four cyanido ligands on each [Ni(CN)<sub>4</sub>]<sup>2-</sup> unit coordinate to Mn<sup>II</sup> ions, leading to the formation of an infinite layer structure.
