Cyclotron Excitation of Terahertz Surface Plasmon Polariton by Electron Beams (Plasmon Gyrotron)
A design for an electron cyclotron maser (gyrotron) is proposed, based on the excitation of a surface wave (plasmon) in an open resonator. The feasibility of implementing such a “plasmonic gyrotron” in the terahertz frequency range is discussed, as well as its advantages in terms of enabling selective excitation of high-order cyclotron harmonics.
