In cases of internal carotid artery occlusion, superficial temporal artery-to-middle cerebral artery (STA-MCA) bypass is the standard approach, as the STA blood flow remains intact. However, in common carotid artery occlusion, the STA blood flow is generally insufficient for a donor artery, necessitating alternative and more complex surgical strategies.
