Vortex Flow of Electrolytes Caused by the Interaction of Electric Current and Magnetic Field in a Cylindrical Cell
The interaction of an external magnetic field with an electric current in a conducting medium may give rise to vortex flows. A rotating flow in an external magnetic field was considered in a cylindrical vessel, where one of the electrodes is the bottom of the vessel, and the second electrode has small dimensions and is immersed in the conducting liquid from above. Both theoretical and experimental results were obtained, specifically, the dependence of the velocity on the radius of the upper electrode, an analytical solution for the potential and velocity, as well as its highest-order mode.
