Antifouling Activity of Oxide Films Prepared by the Extraction–Pyrolytic Method under Continental Water Body Conditions
The possibility of protecting materials against fouling by using oxide film coatings under freshwater body conditions was considered. Oxide film coatings differ from widely used paint and varnish materials in hardness, durability, and anticorrosion properties. The oxide coatings used in the experiment were prepared by the solution extraction–pyrolytic method, which enables coating large surfaces without the use of vacuum systems. During the study of the protective properties and environmental safety of the film coatings, the possibility of applying an original biotesting method for the samples was examined using natural zooplankton under laboratory conditions and in short-term tests under natural water body conditions to determine the protection mechanism and to calculate the individual and overall dynamic biocidal efficiency of the coated samples. The procedure for conducting the studies and calculations for evaluating the antifouling properties, type of protection mechanism, and environmental safety of the developed coatings is described.
