Count on Kenneth Anderson to provide a comprehensive look at addiction treatment in the United States, with a focus on history; this means some methods that worked, some that didn't, and some that were just cruel and uninformed. As one of the youngest fields of medicine, addiction medicine still has a long way to go, especially with alcohol, which Anderson also focuses on (he is also the founder of HAMS, a harm reduction approach to alcohol).
