Knowledge and readiness towards Newborn Danger Sign among nursing students of selected nursing college, Mangaluru

Purposive sampling was used for the study. The tool consisted of baseline proforma, knowledge questionnaire on newborn danger signs and rating scale to assess the readiness of nursing student towards newborn danger signs.
Results
Among the 218 nursing students, nearly half (48.16 %) of the nursing students had satisfactory knowledge, while a significant proportion (39.44 %) exhibited poor knowledge and only a minority (12.38 %) demonstrated good knowledge regarding newborn danger signs; the nursing students were nearly equally divided in their readiness towards newborn danger signs, where in which 50.9 % of the participants demonstrated readiness, while the remaining 49.1 % showed non readiness and there was weak correlation (r = 0.163, p < 0.05) between knowledge and readiness.
Conclusion
The present study findings highlight the need to address the gap between knowledge and practice by strengthening the nursing curriculum.
