This experiential report presents a comparative analysis of the total cost of ownership (TCO) of commercial-grade displays (WCDs) and diagnostic-grade displays (WDDs) in remote diagnostic stations. We evaluate direct and indirect costs associated with each display type using activity-based costing, focusing on deployment, quality control (QC) processes, and ongoing maintenance. Our findings suggest that while CGDs offer significant initial cost savings, their long-term maintenance requirements, particularly in manual QC, increase recurring expenses.
