Study of Nanocarbon Spontaneous Emission Centers on the Cathodes of Multiwire Proportional Chambers of the LHCb Muon Detector
It is found that nanocarbon structures are formed on the cathodes of multiwire proportional chambers of the LHCb muon detector as a result of long-term operation in experiments at the Large Hadron Collider. The appearance of nanocarbon structures on the copper cathode initiates spontaneous generation of self-sustained currents in proportional chambers. Emission centers grow due to absorption of dissociation products of gas mixture components on the copper cathode. The process occurs under normal conditions, which is unusual for nanostructures, and it is not reproducible in laboratory aging tests.
