Attention to medical care and maintenance, household income, and financial pension security level
Amidst the rapid global trend of population aging and ongoing reforms in pension security systems, improving the financial security of the elderly has emerged as a central concern for both scholars and policymakers. Drawing on data from the China Social Survey (CSS) conducted in 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2023, this study examines how attention to medical care and elderly support, along with household income, shapes the financial pension security of older adults. The results reveal that household income is significantly and positively correlated with the subjective well-being of the elderly, while attention to medical care and elderly support effectively boosts their sense of well-being; household income serves as a mediating factor in the relationship between attention to medical care and maintenance and the level of financial pension security, with this mediating effect exhibiting heterogeneity between internet users and non-users. This study offers new perspectives for understanding family resource allocation behaviors in elder care and provides empirical evidence to optimize pension security policy design and promote the adaptation of digital inclusive financial services to better serve the elderly.
