Electromagnetic field-assisted ultra-precision grinding of single-crystal Ni-based superalloy
This paper proposes the integration of an electromagnetic field into the ultra-precision grinding process to improve the machinability of the single-crystal nickel-based superalloy. The effects of the magnetic flux intensity on the grinding wheel vibration and surface integrity were investigated through grinding experiments. The results show that the wheel vibration amplitude was reduced by 45.82% by applying the electromagnetic field. The arithmetic mean height (Sa) and the maximum height difference (Sz) were decreased by 71.09% and 67.69%, respectively, in the optimal condition, which demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed electromagnetic field-assisted ultra-precision grinding process.
