Furthermore, it is the scene of a rapid transition of indigenous populations towards a consumer society. French Guiana has a whole series of very real obstacles to care: language barrier, restricted technical platforms, understaffing of professionals, geographical distance and complicated accessibility. These difficulties sometimes lead to the need for medical evacuations to better-equipped areas. Making this region attractive for health professionals to reduce inequality in access to care is an objective highlighted during the latest Assises de la pédiatrie et de la santé de l'enfant in 2023 and by the Haut Conseil de la Santé Publique in 2021.
