Supporting safe urinary catheter insertion by promoting ANTT® principles.
The most recent national point prevalence survey on healthcare-associated infections in the NHS in England recorded catheter-associated urinary tract infection as 17.5% of all healthcare-associated infections. Much of this infection risk is associated with the catheter insertion process. This article explains how a procedure pack that has been specifically designed with Aseptic Non Touch Technique (ANTT®) principles in mind can not only help to ensure practitioners have all the right equipment at hand, but can also sequence a best practice approach to safe urinary catheter insertion by design.
